Aah! Do we have to make them up?

What a beautiful day this Thursday, January 26, 2012 is in Bellingham, WA! The sun is shining and not a cloud in site (at least from my vantage point)! We are now back in our regular routines. The snow has disappeared. Children are back to school and wondering whether school makeup days will be extended into their very coveted summer vacation. It seems this is very likely as the state requires that students attend school for 180 days. Thus far, 2 of the 4 days missed due to snow have been added to the school year extending it through June 22, 2012. In harmony with the 2011-14 teacher’s contract, the additional 2-day makeup and possible future snow days are being negotiated between labor leaders, the school district and representatives from the Student and Parent Advisory Councils.
I have just checked the school website. All makeup days have been officially determined. The Revised Calendar for Bellingham Public Schools found at www.bellinghamschools.org outlines these makeup days-the remaining 2 missed school days will be made up on Friday, February 3, and Friday, March 23. As noted above, it was already determined that the first 2 days of the 4 days missed would be added to the end of the school year on June 21 and 22. So that being said, let’s hope the snow doesn’t grace us with its presence any further this year! *
